So... You Think You Know South Florida

You probably already know... Fort Lauderdale is a travel and vacation destination. People come from all around the world for the beaches, the sun, the good food, and to live it up a little.

But what you might not know... that our city is getting a distinctive culture as the home of nine different under the radar speakeasies here in Broward County alone.

A speakeasy is a bar that operates in secrecy, historically referring to illegal drinking establishments that flourished during the American Prohibition era (1920-1933) to serve alcohol when it was banned. The name "speakeasy" comes from the need for patrons to "speak easy" or quietly to avoid attracting the attention of law enforcement.

Modern speakeasies replicate the style and atmosphere of these historical venues, but operate legally and openly, often requiring a password or a hidden entrance to create a unique, exclusive experience.

Each one has its own play. For example: Room 901 is epicโ€ฆ you have to provide a code word at the front desk to get a special key card to even access the room.

You can visit Apothecary 330, Bodego Taqueria, Hidden, Room 901, No Man's Land, Swizzle, Green Hat, and Stache.

Quote Of The Week

"Ego is the enemy of what you want and of what you have: Of mastering a craft. Of real creative insight. Of working well with others. Of building loyalty and support. Of longevity. Of repeating and retaining your success." ~ Author Ryan Holiday

Flotsam & Jetsam

Have you ever noticed that sometimes there is a perfect word to describe a feeling or situation, but it exists in another language?

Well, Eunoia is a website that is collecting all those "perfect words" to nail the sentiment you want to say or write - and defining them both by meaning and derivation.

Word Play Of The Week

"Vanish into Thin Air"

The phrase "vanish into thin air" means to disappear completely and without a trace. It's commonly used to describe something or someone that seems to have disappeared mysteriously or unexpectedly.

The origin of this idiom can be traced back to Shakespeare's play The Tempest, which was first performed around 1611.~ Sourceโ€‹
